I want to make sending and paying for e-cards a prime feature on a Web site that's now being designed for me by GoDaddy. Some questions:

1.I've come up with 9 of my own e-cards (including art and text). Does this software allow me to format them? If so, how? Your demo doesn't appear to address that.

2.I only want to showcase my own personally designed e-mails. Is that possible? (Meaning, Ino offense, but I don't want any of your generic ones to show.)

3.How and where would they show up on my Web site? Ideally, what I'd like to do is promo a few on the home page, and then have people click through for the full array on a separate page. Is that the way it works?

4.What code would GoDaddy need to link my site with yours?

Thanks for your questions about WebCards.

    1. It depends what you mean by format them. WebCards uses a templating system so you can play around with the layout for the cards using html and css. Only the administrators can change the templates though, a user cannot do this.

    2. You can change the text of the emails very easily. Also, the emails are personalised so you can include the recipient's name and other similar things.

    3. WebCards is installed in a separate directory to the rest of your website but it can easily be integrated through the template system. It would certainly be quite easy to promote a few cards on your homepage and link through to the appropriate sending page.

    4. WebCards requires MySQL and PHP version 5.2 or greater. I think that is what your question was asking.

Let me know if any of these answers aren't clear or if you need any more information.

Ah, you've taken pity on me. I'm a whiz at Word, but this stuff...Let me show you how truly clueless I am about this.

1.Uh, I'd be downloading your software on my home laptop, right? (As opposed to my GoDaddy-designed Web site, ButtOutOfMyLife.com. Don't look for it yet -- this is the last feature I have to give them before they put it all together.)

2.Are you saying that all my e-cards would be physically on my site? Meaning, clicking on one of the promoed ones on the home page, would take people to another page on my site -- not some other site you've created to fulfill and send orders?

3.What would I have to give GoDaddy to make this work? Jpegs of the e-cards? Specific code? Both?

4.This program only accepts PayPal. I believe I can buy a shopping cart from GoDaddy that would also accept credit cards. Would doing so work with this software?

5.If I don't delete all the e-cards that come standard with the program, will they automatically show up?

    Much thanks.

    1. The software is web based. You need to download it to your laptop and then upload it to your Godaddy webserver. You then need to run the installation program to get it all set up.

    2. Everything is physically hosted on your own site.

    3. All you need to create the cards is any type of image file. You can use jpeg, gif, png, bmp and even Flash. You simply upload the file to the program and it does everything to prepare the cards for you.

    4. Godaddy only offer a "cart," they don't physically process the payments. You will still need a payment processor like PayPal to handle the money. In short, no it doesn't work with Godaddy shopping cart. but that doesn't matter as you don't need it anyway.

    5. No e-cards come preinstalled. You start with a blank canvas when you install the program.

The most important thing to do is check that Godaddy use PHP 5.2 or greater and that you have MySQL support on your hosting plan.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

You're a sweetheart for putting up with me.

Assuming GoDaddy uses PHP 5.2 (which I think it does) and that I have MySQL support, I'll be buying this.

I'm going to check with GoDaddy. Just a few more questions so it'll hopefully be clear to them and me:

1.How do I download it to GoDaddy? I've been downloading photos and copy to the designers, but this is a software program.

2.Who runs the installation program? Me, on my home laptop? Or GoDaddy ,on my Web site?

3.Do I then make the cards on my home laptop and then give them to GoDaddy? Or do I make then on my GoDaddy Web site?

God, I hate feeling this stupid.

    Much thanks.

There is no reason at all to feel stupid, there is always a learning curve when you are trying to get to grips with new software. I am here to answer any questions you may have, no matter how stupid you think they are.

1 and 2. You can email them the zip archive that you download from your Member Centre. They will upload it for you and you can run the installation program. Running an installation may sound daunting but it is as easy as setting up your username and password. If you get really stuck I can always do it for you.

    3. You don't make the cards as such, all you do is upload an image from the web-based administration centre and the cards are created by the program. There really is nothing complicated about doing it once you have the hang of it.

Godaddy may create your site for you, but you will have to get familiar with FTP and other sorts of general maintenance tasks if you are going to be running your own website.

As before, let me know if you have any other questions.

Know that one of the best moments was when Dell took control of my computer, while we were on the phone, and fixed a problem for me.

Question (which I think I know the answer to): But I can download my own photos and then add text to them with your problem, right?

Yes you can, that's exactly how WebCards works.
